A Free Online Optimiser for Energy Systems

Bivios is pleased to announce the launch of Levelised, a free browser-based techno-economic optimiser for energy systems, now live at levelised.com.

Levelised lets anyone drag generators, storage, loads and links onto a canvas – electricity, heat, hydrogen, water, any energy or mass flow – and solve a full year at hourly resolution using the open-source PyPSA framework and the HiGHS solver. That means least-cost sizing and dispatch, not a spreadsheet approximation, and no account is needed to build and solve.

This is the same class of modelling that sits behind Bivios' advisory work for miners, developers and large energy users. Hourly, full-year optimisation of a site's energy options has traditionally required a consultant and a few weeks of work; Bivios built Levelised to put it in the browser, and decided the tool was too useful to keep to ourselves. It also changes what an advisory engagement can deliver. Instead of a static report, clients can now open the model behind the advice, change an assumption and re-solve it themselves.

The app ships with a worked, solved example for each sector Bivios serves – renewable energy, data centres, mining and metal processing, and renewable fuels – plus a guided tour. One feature we particularly like: drop a pin anywhere on a map and Levelised builds an hourly year of wind and solar generation for that location, ready for screening studies in minutes rather than days.
